Announcement of Student Energy Challenge 2020 Competition

For the first time in the history of Student Energy Challenge Competition, defense of the projects will take place in online mode on October 8-9, 2020.

Student Energy Challenge Competition is held by the KAZENERGY Association in partnership and with the financial support of Shell Kazakhstan since 2017 (hereinafter referred to as the Organizers).

The Competition is aimed at supporting student projects offering innovative solutions to energy problems.
In connection with the current global situation, the Organizers have made changes and additions to the conditions of the Competition. At the same time, distance education mode in all educational institutions of the country, minimal interference in the educational process during the defense of projects (this autumn), and most importantly, compliance with safety measures and health protection of participants of the Competition were taken into account.

Themes of the Competition:

• improving efficiency in the mining and manufacturing industries;
• ecology/health protection;
• electric-power /renewable and alternative energy sources;
• introduction of digital technologies and effective innovative solutions in the extractive industries.

14 teams from 8 universities of Kazakhstan, representing the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Aktobe, Pavlodar and Uralsk, were invited to the finish line.

The Competition will be attended by team members, scientific supervisors - team curators, jury members, Competition sponsors and Organizers.

Work of the Teams will be judged by a competent jury:

4. Bert Hazelaar - General Manager/Chief Financial Officer of Shell Kazakhstan
5. Sarkeev Bakytzhan Kurmanbaevich - Deputy Chairman of Science Fund JSC
6. Sikhaev Marlen Aidarovich - Managing Director of the Corporate Fund Astana Hub International Technopark of IT startups
7. Isenov Baglan Kakimzhanovich - Director of Generation and Fuel Department of Samruk-Energo JSC

The prize fund of the competition is:

1st place - USD 10,000
2nd place - USD 5,000
3rd place - USD 3,000
